Casual Vanity

There is the necessary vanity,
the one that lets you understand
that it’s not just you who’s in love –
that the same thing you see
in every woman reading, mixing her
yogurt, they see in you, sipping coffee 
trying to write what you yearn
to call poetry.  Today I am vain.
Today I will fall in love five times.
