This Week: Heavyweights

Seriously, Judd Apatow could not be better than Heavyweights. Yes, he has done Pineapple Express, Superbad, 40 Year Old Virgin, and The Cable Guy, but come on, Heavyweights is a classic.
This was the start of Apatow, and the start of fat kids being loved. I'll diverge from the point for a bit: who loved fat kids before we realized they can still be cool even though they are fat? I mean, we don't want to be like Tony Perkis and starve kids just because they were born with a little extra weight, do we?
This movie is a classic for many reasons. Reason number one: Shaun Weiss is the man in this movie, there is no one cooler than Josh Burnbalm at Camp Hope. Better known for his performance as Goldberg in The Mighty Ducks, Weiss is a class act. Who else would trick Ben Stiller into doing a sit up straight into his brown-eyed monster? Who else would be better at catching a puck if it was a hamburger?
Reason number two: I find it hilarious how the whole summer these kids at fat camp have to play against Camp MVP. Like seriously, when would a fat camp ever come close to beating a camp strictly for the athletically gifted 12 year olds? There aren't any eating contests involved; they are playing baseball, climbing rock walls, and racing around the woods. Sure the fat kids take the lead in the marathon when they hit the question and answer section, but MVP means both athletic and smart, we all know that. Just look at Kobe Bryant, he was the NBA's MVP and is fluent in like 37 languages (Chris Fraher you are just wrong).
Last reason: Gerry learned his lesson. Sure, in the movie he has a great time, he enjoys his summer at fat camp; the perfect movie ending. But, you go to IMDB right now and look him up. Find Aaron Schwarts and you check him out. He is skinny! So yes, he got the role as the fat kid when he was 14, but then he realized he was "the fat kid," and he got his act together. Fictional fat camp did him good.
