Palm Amber Ale

Brewery:

Style:

ABV:

Country of Origin:

Region:

Steenhuffel

5.1%
Belgian Pale Ale
Palm Breweries NV/SA

Appearance:

Palm pours a honeyed amber, topping to a short, thick head that dissipates slowly. There is minimal lacing left on the glass.

Smell:

The nose is almost all fruit. It smells like dried stone fruits like peaches, plums, and apricots. But there is caramel malt sweetness mixed in for good measure.

Taste:

It is sweet but not syrupy, bitter but not biting, and creamy but not light. The caramel malt and stone fruits give way to an almost appley taste and an herbal spice that rounds out the flavor profile.

Mouthfeel:

Palm is heavy but well rounded; Smooth on the palate. The moderate carbonation grabs an immediate and assertive hold of the tongue but lets go just as quickly and easily.

Drinkability:

This is a great late winter/early spring session ale. And for cold weather dishes they are really the best base and companion. Next time you make a stew or hearty soup consider using Palm as the base instead of water. But if you feel like that may be a waste of beer, pair Palm with some Thai or Chinese food. It would also do well with fried chicken and biscuits. Leave the oven door open to give your roommates the illusion of a home cooked meal.

Overall Grade: B
