PC Cash to be Accepted Off Campus

Within the next few days, CVS, Golden Crust, and Frankly’s Pizza will become even more accessible to Providence College students. As of this month, the three vendors have finalized plans to accept PC Cash, which is stored on students’ PC ID’s, in their stores. Full story

Project Haiti Raises $5,000

Project Haiti made $462 for an event that cost them nothing to run over Presidents’ Day Weekend. With the money from the Haiti Benefit Concert and Cultural Celebration, Project Haiti has now raised $5,000, which is half of the $10,000 goal which it hopes to raise by the end of the academic year. Shutter Island

Martin Scorsese is one of the greatest directors in history. I know what you’re thinking: That’s a bold claim. The man has won the Academy Award for Best Director only once. Still, that’s one more than Quentin Tarantino, Alfred Hitchcock, and Gus Van Sant combined. He was edged out in 1990, when Kevin Costner took away the award for Dances with Wolves. When he finally won in 2006 for The Departed, it almost seemed like a compensatory award for the previous five nominations. Still, since The Departed came out, Scorsese fans have been waiting for another project. As soon as Shutter Island was announced, our anticipation reached a peak. Full story

Obama’s Meeting with Dalai Lama Angers China

According to BBC, a visit by the Dalai Lama to Washington on Feb. 18 has “seriously undermined” relations between the U.S. and China. China has released a strongly worded statement in response to President Barack Obama’s meeting with Tibet’s spiritual leader expressing “strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition” to the meeting with the Dalai Lama, whom they see as a separatist. China has expressed that U.S. actions have seriously hurt “the national feelings of the Chinese people.” Full story
